Funny Marco has built an entire comedy career around making other people uncomfortable. Put him across from AllHipHop co-founder Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur, though, and somebody was eventually going to return fire.
The Kansas City native rose through social media pranks before turning awkward silence, absurd questions and a seemingly unbreakable straight face into the foundation of his popular “Open Thoughts” interviews. By 2023, his unusual approach had produced viral encounters with artists including DaBaby, Sexyy Red, Lil Yachty, G Herbo and Southside.
AllHipHop caught up with Marco around Netflix’s 72 Hours, the Tim Story-directed comedy starring Kevin Hart as a 40-year-old advertising executive trying to reconnect with youth culture during an outrageous Miami bachelor weekend.
What followed barely resembled a traditional red-carpet interview.

Marco drank water through the opening, sort of mistook Jigsaw for Xzibit, questioned his age, insulted his appearance, investigated the cameraman’s footwear and somehow squeezed in serious reflections on Hollywood, Kevin Hart and the infamous G Herbo interview.
AllHipHop: What’s going on, everybody? It’s your man Chuck Creekmur. AllHipHop is here for 72 Hours, and we’re here with Funny Marco, who is very thirsty right now. He’s just drinking voraciously at this very moment. I don’t know when he’s going to stop drinking.
Funny Marco: I told him he reminds me of Xzibit. I seen Pimp My Ride.
AllHipHop: That’s a compliment. I don’t pimp no rides, but I pimp other things. I’m originally from Delaware.
Funny Marco: Delaware? Near Philly?
AllHipHop: Near Philly.
Funny Marco: I’m from Kansas City, man.
AllHipHop: Kansas City. That’s where your disposition comes from. Something about Philly fans, man. You’re a Philly fan?
Funny Marco: Yeah. Y’all wasn’t supposed to win that Super Bowl.
AllHipHop: You crazy. Yes, we were.
Funny Marco: Y’all only won because it was New Orleans. And that’s the backstory that’s going to come out years later.
AllHipHop: What’s the backstory?
Funny Marco: The referees were gambling.
AllHipHop: There you go. Hating, man. Come on, man. Black quarterback and all that.
Funny Marco: Patrick Mahomes Black.
AllHipHop: I ain’t even going to touch that. See, there you go. Are you in this movie?
Funny Marco: I am, man.
AllHipHop: They don’t got you on the cheat sheet.
Funny Marco: I’m on there.
AllHipHop: Where you at? Oh, you got too much hair, man. I didn’t even recognize you.
Funny Marco: I ain’t going to lie. I didn’t know I was on there either.
AllHipHop: You’ve been so effective in making people laugh. Where did that come from? Because you’re not acting that way now.
Funny Marco: I feel like just reading the room. When you talk to your elders and when you talk to someone that’s older, you what, 70? What, 62?
When you meet anyone that’s been in the game, you got to turn it off and show respect. And that’s what I’m doing right now. The fact that you’re 62 and you’ve been in the game for a long time, it’s nothing but respect.
You’re so fine.
Just respecting the game, you know what I’m saying? And shout out to the cameraman. He looks like he tired. His arms are hurting all day just holding it. He gets no shine, man. When this comes out, he gets no credit. So shout out to him because without him, this wouldn’t be going on.
AllHipHop: I see you got the perm. You coming out your shell now.
Funny Marco: I had cut it. You know why? I cut it for a movie audition.
AllHipHop: Mhm.
Funny Marco: And I didn’t get the movie. So I’m growing my hair back out.
Let me tell you, name a movie star that got five movies that got braids or a big Afro as the main person.
None.

AllHipHop: It’s a lot of Black people in this movie. I didn’t realize it was such a Black event.
Funny Marco: Because it’s 72 Hours.
AllHipHop: How was it working with Kevin Hart? Were you in a scene with him?
Funny Marco: Yeah. Kevin Hart is different. I feel like when the movie cuts on, he turns into movie Kevin Hart. But when it’s off, it’s still business Kevin Hart.
AllHipHop: Philly Kevin Hart.
Funny Marco: Philly Kevin Hart.
AllHipHop: Philadelphia Eagles championship, Super Bowl.
Funny Marco: Philly Kevin Hart. When he gets some liquor in the system. Shout out to his liquor. Liquor good, too.
AllHipHop: What else you got going on career-wise?
Funny Marco: I got a show called Let Me Invest, and that’s a spin-off of Shark Tank, where I’m investing into creators.
You get to come on there and present yourself. Each episode, I got a budget to give away to people. As long as you come with your presentation right, I’m investing into people and giving them their shine.
AllHipHop: Do you have an awkward moment, a highlighted awkward moment? Have you ever been in trouble doing what you do?
Funny Marco: The only awkward moment that went viral was when the G Herbo accident happened with my interview. That was the big thing.
I feel like it was me because, as a man, I could have spoke up and just been like, “Man, let’s get to the interview. Let’s keep it funny.”
So that’s something I learned from that.
AllHipHop: Right.
Funny Marco: I feel like I got to meet Chicago funny.
And that’s something I had to learn. So shout out to Chicago funny because they funny.
Now I know to match the energy sometimes. It’s nothing like a little bro. You know what I’m saying? It was just like a little bro moment.
That was the only time where I didn’t match the funny. I’m like, I got to learn. Chicago funny is Chicago funny.
AllHipHop: Is that stage of your career over?
Funny Marco: Which part?
AllHipHop: The stoic, stone-faced thing.
Funny Marco: It depends on the situation. It’s just reading the room, when to pull it out and when not.
And it’s okay to be able to just sit in a moment and not always try to talk and still shine.
AllHipHop: Right.
Funny Marco: Because I’ve been funny-looking all my life.
AllHipHop: I’ve noticed. (Marco walks away.)
[Laughter]
AllHipHop: Come on, man!
AllHipHop: I wasn’t going to ask you about your skin. I wasn’t going to say nothing, but you brought it up.
[Laughter]
Then the attention becomes a roasting of Marco and comedians others nearby.
AllHipHop: You brought it up. What? Your toes is out!
He got the hammer toe. Y’all got matching shoes, matching flip-flops.
Funny Marco: He picked out his outfit. He didn’t know we were dressing alike.
AllHipHop: How y’all got the same outfit? That’s a pause-worthy moment. All y’all got almost the same thing on.
They got their toes out in New York City.
Where y’all both from? You from Kansas City. You already weird.
Other comic: Detroit.
AllHipHop: Detroit? Detroit don’t do nothing like that. Not the Detroit I know.
And a throat tat. Don’t look at me like that.
