After six albums, roughly 80 songs and a Grammy victory, Nas and Hit-Boy stopped speaking, and one unconfirmed rumor suggests the producer’s father may be part of the mystery.

Something is going on between Nas and Hit-Boy, and I cannot help but wonder what it is.
A lot of people are asking the same question after Hit-Boy revealed that he has not spoken to Nas in approximately three years.
That is a long time, especially after the extensive work they completed together. Between 2020 and 2023, Nas and Hit-Boy released six albums and recorded roughly 80 songs. Hit-Boy produced almost all of them.

The run included the entire King’s Disease trilogy and the entire Magic trilogy. It also helped Nas win the first Grammy of his legendary career when King’s Disease earned Best Rap Album in 2021.
This was not some casual collaboration. It was one of the most productive rapper-producer partnerships in Hip-Hop history.
That is why the silence feels significant.
“We did a lot of great work, but I don’t see us working again,” Hit-Boy said. He also suggested that there were “a lot of reasons” for their separation and described the situation as too deep for him to discuss publicly.
Even Joe Budden had something to say.
This all sounds like more than two artists simply moving in different directions.
Still, nobody seems to know exactly what happened. I have not found anyone who can offer concrete information about the source of the apparent friction. Even those corny AI summaries that scour the internet and repackage everything cannot find an answer.
But the streets are not artificial intelligence. The streets watch closely and monitor every move.
That brings us to a particular piece of information circulating behind the scenes. This does not mean it is true, and it does not even prove that Nas and Hit-Boy have beef. At this point, it is a rumor.
However, the rumor does fit rather neatly into the limited information available.
We already know there is some type of distance between Nas and Hit-Boy. More importantly, we know Hit-Boy has experienced a complicated and painful situation involving his father, Big Hit. One might conclude that this is a generational issue. That may be true, or it may be completely false. Still, I believe there could be a connection.
The allegation is that Nas was resistant to building musically with Big Hit, Hit-Boy’s father, and that this may have become a source of friction between Nas and Hit-Boy.
Nas has not confirmed that claim. Hit-Boy has not identified it as one of the “reasons” behind their split either. There is a pic online of them all. The image is odd. Without words being said, the body language speaks.
Hit-Boy has invested an enormous amount of money, time and emotional energy into helping his father establish a rap career after prison. In a VladTV interview, he said he spent nearly $1 million on Big Hit’s comeback, including music videos, housing, clothing, travel and studio expenses. The situation became even more painful after Big Hit faced another criminal case and ultimately returned to prison despite initially receiving probation.
Hit-Boy was not merely producing records for his father. He was attempting to rebuild a relationship, create a legitimate business and break a cycle that had affected their family for decades. Big Hit had spent much of the previous 30 years going in and out of prison and that Hit-Boy was personally financing his father’s independent career.
If Hit-Boy wanted Nas to participate in that mission and Nas was not interested, Hit-Boy could have taken the rejection personally. But Nas would also have every right to make that artistic decision.
And then there is this: “Death to all suckers and love to all winners and people who believe.” Nas said this as he received an award by BMI. I deliberately left this for the end. Nas is part of the greatest beef not Kendrick and Drake. He’s a monster and a beast when he wants. I hope he does not let that side of him go. We have not confirmed he was talking to his former studio bestie.
This is Nas we are talking about.
He has earned the right to decide whose music moves him, which beats he wants and which collaborations make sense for his career. Supporting Hit-Boy does not automatically require him to work with Hit-Boy’s father.
There is another important detail. When Magic 3 arrived in September 2023, the public messaging did not resemble a bitter breakup. Hit-Boy told Nas he would be available “whenever forever,” while Nas said they could easily make more albums. That makes the producer’s new statement that the issue is “pretty deep” even more intriguing.
Perhaps resentment developed after the music stopped. Perhaps business, money, loyalty or creative differences entered the picture. Maybe Big Hit was involved in some fashion, or maybe the rumor is completely wrong.
What we know is limited but meaningful: Nas and Hit-Boy created six albums in three years, have apparently not spoken since that run ended, and Hit-Boy now says he does not see them working together again. He’s declined to explain the deeper reasons.
Until Nas or Hit-Boy tells the full story, anything beyond those facts is speculation.
